Fact Checking Policy

Wildlife content spreads fast and corrects slowly. These are the checks we run before anything goes live.

Our verification steps

Each article passes the following checks.

  • Species names verified against current accepted taxonomy in a recognised catalogue.
  • Distribution and habitat claims checked against IUCN or a national biodiversity database.
  • Venom pharmacology checked against peer-reviewed toxinology sources rather than popular summaries.
  • First-aid guidance aligned with WHO, national poison centres or resuscitation council protocols.
  • Population figures dated and attributed to a specific assessment.
  • Statistics traced to their original publication, never to an article quoting an article.

Handling uncertainty

Where the literature disagrees — a common situation in venom research — we present the disagreement rather than picking the most dramatic figure. Where data are absent, we say the data are absent.

Reporting an error

Email editorial@venomandrarity.com with the article URL, the claim you believe is incorrect and, where possible, a source. We aim to acknowledge reports within three working days and to correct verified errors within seven.

Correction transparency

Minor typographical fixes are made silently. Corrections to facts, figures or safety guidance are recorded in a note at the foot of the article along with the date of the change.
