About Venom & Rarity

An independent publication about the animals people fear and the animals we are about to lose — reported with the same standard of evidence we would apply to a field paper.

Why this publication exists

Search for almost any venomous animal and you will find the same recycled paragraphs: the same exaggerated lethality claims, the same first-aid advice that was discredited decades ago, the same population figure repeated without a date. That content is harmless right up until someone follows it after a real bite.

Venom & Rarity was founded in 2019 to do the opposite. We write about venomous insects, arachnids, reptiles and marine life, and about the rarest animals on Earth, starting from primary sources: peer-reviewed toxinology, national poison-centre protocols, resuscitation council guidance and current IUCN assessments.

What we cover

Our reporting is organised into six sections, each built around a cluster of related guides so a reader can move from a single question to a working understanding of a topic.

  • Venomous Insects — Stings, venom chemistry and the insects that deliver them.
  • Spiders & Scorpions — Arachnid venom, medical significance and identification.
  • Rare & Endangered Animals — The species closest to disappearing — and why.
  • Reptiles & Amphibians — Snakes, lizards and toxic amphibians.
  • Marine Venomous Life — Ocean animals with the most potent venoms on Earth.
  • Wildlife Safety & First Aid — Evidence-based responses to bites, stings and encounters.
  • Best Free VPNs — Free VPN services tested for speed, limits and privacy.
  • VPN for Netflix — Streaming-capable VPNs and how to fix proxy errors.
  • VPN for Phones — Mobile VPN setup, speed and battery guidance.
  • Free VPN for Phones — Free mobile VPN apps, tested and vetted.
  • VPN for PC — Desktop VPNs for Windows, macOS and Linux.

How we work

Every article is written by a named contributor with relevant field experience, checked against primary sources, and dated so you can see how current it is. Our editorial policy and fact checking policy describe the process in full, including how we handle corrections.

We do not publish machine-generated articles, we do not accept payment for coverage, and advertising has no influence on editorial conclusions. Where evidence is uncertain, we say so in the article rather than picking the most dramatic available figure.

Who writes here

Mahmoud Osama, Senior Wildlife Researcher & Editor-in-Chief, leads the editorial desk with 8+ years of fieldwork and science writing behind him. His full credentials, expertise and article portfolio are published on his author page.
